We’re excited to kick off registration for our first full season as the Delta Female Ice Hockey Association (DFIHA) — Delta's first dedicated all-girls hockey association! We proudly carry forward the legacy of the Delta Stars program, offering hockey for girls of all ages and recreational skill levels.

Delta Female Ice Hockey Association (DFIHA) was registered as a non-profit society late in 2025. We submitted applications for recognition / registration with PCAHA and BC Hockey early in 2026. We are happy to report that the PCAHA Female Committee voted on April 13, 2026 to strongly support our application for registration, and our application was unanimously approved at the PCAHA AGM on May 31, 2026. BC Hockey confirmed its approval on June 8, 2026.
We have been in discussions with SDMHA, NDMHA and PCAHA since 2025. City of Delta is one of the last municipalities in the region not to have a hockey association dedicated to girls’ development. As approved by PCAHA and BC Hockey in May and June 2026, Delta Female Ice Hockey Association's zone includes all of Delta.
Registration opened June 1 and we would love it if you could register as early as possible! Early registration helps us to confirm numbers, teams and ice time, providing certainty for all families. We are offering a $50 discount for early registration (as well as sibling discounts, and reduced fees for U7, U9 and U21 players, and goalies in older age groups).
Based on preliminary survey responses and existing players in the region, we are aiming to have at least one team for each age group between U7-U18 during our inaugural 2026-2027 season.
If there is sufficient interest among U21 players, we will also form a women's team.
One of our key goals in starting DFIHA is to create a sustainable association that Delta families can rely on. As has been the case historically, it takes a while for rosters to be settled, particularly in age groups where girls are trying out for rep teams. As registration progresses in the region, we will keep Delta parents and neighbouring associations informed on numbers. We want every girl to have a place to play and this goal is shared with neighbouring associations.
Based on preliminary survey results, we expect to be rostering at least one team in every age group between U7 and U18.
We are working hard to consistently offer fair and competitive registration fees that align with other associations in the region. We are extremely grateful for initial grant funding received from community partners, including the City of Delta. Current registration fees can be found on our Fees page.
Under PCAHA rules, where a new female association is formed, a player that has been registered for the two previous seasons with another association may choose to remain with that association. Other players will need to register with DFIHA. Our goals are to grow hockey for females in Delta and to get and keep girls in the game. If you have specific questions or concerns, please reach out to registrar@deltastars.ca.
The PCAHA sets the rules for player movement. DFIHA (and other member associations) are required to follow those rules. Generally, players are required to register with a minor hockey association whose zone includes their residential address, subject to a few limited exceptions. For DFIHA,'s inaugural 2026-2027 season, key exceptions include:
1. The player prefers to play integrated hockey (no release / movement required – please register with South Delta or North Delta as applicable).
2. The player wants to try out / play rep hockey (DFIHA will not be forming rep teams for the 2026-2027 season).
3. There is no room on the relevant DFIHA roster.
4. The player has played for another female association during the past two seasons and wishes to remain there for 2026-2027.
If you have specific questions or concerns, please reach out to registrar@deltastars.ca.
