We’re excited to kick off registration for our first full season as the Delta Female Ice Hockey Association (DFIHA) — Delta's first dedicated all-girls hockey association! We proudly carry forward the legacy of the Delta Stars program, offering hockey for girls of all ages and recreational skill levels.

Delta Female Ice Hockey Association (DFIHA) was registered as a non-profit society late in 2025. We have submitted applications for recognition / registration with PCAHA and BC Hockey, which will be considered at PCAHA board and BC Hockey meetings in April-June. We are happy to report that the PCAHA Female Committee voted on April 13, 2026 to strongly support our application for registration and is working with us to confirm approval and open registration as quickly as possible. Approval by both PCAHA and BC Hockey is required to open player registration. Stay tuned!
We have been in discussions with SDMHA, NDMHA and PCAHA since 2025. City of Delta is one of the last municipalities in the region not to have a hockey association dedicated to girls’ development. Our proposal (subject to PCAHA and BC Hockey approval) is for Delta Female Ice Hockey Association to be for all girls in Delta.
DFIHA is doing everything possible to open registration as early as possible, and to align with the timelines of other associations. We require PCAHA and BC Hockey approval before we can launch, however, which may push us a bit later in May or June. When registration does open, we would love it if you could register as early as possible, so we can confirm numbers, teams and ice time. We are offering a $50 discount for early registration (as well as sibling discounts, and reduced fees for U7, U9 and U21 players, and goalies in older age groups).
Based on preliminary survey responses and existing players in the region, we are aiming to have at least one team for each age group between U7-U18 during our inaugural 2026-2027 season.
If there is sufficient interest among U21 players, we will also form a women's team.
One of our key goals in starting DFIHA is to create a sustainable association that Delta families can rely on. As has been the case historically, it takes a while for rosters to be settled, particularly in age groups where girls are trying out for rep teams. As registration progresses in the region, we will keep Delta parents and neighbouring associations informed on numbers. We want every girl to have a place to play and this goal is shared with neighbouring associations.
Based on preliminary survey results, we expect to be rostering at least one team in every age group between U7 and U18.
We are working hard to offer fair and competitive registration fees that align with other associations in the region and are grateful for some grant funding received already, including a community grant from City of Delta. Once rates are finalized, we will post on our Fees page.
Under PCAHA rules, where a new female association is formed, a player that has been registered for the two previous seasons with another association may choose to remain with that association. Other players will need to register with DFIHA. Our goals are to grow hockey for females in Delta and to get and keep girls in the game. If you have specific questions or concerns, please reach out to registrar@deltastars.ca.
